Villa Birdlake has undergone a major revamp and has been re-launched for the public. The property was erected more than 45 years ago by the late Hubert Edwin Weerasooriya. He was a prominent lawyer from the Galle District, Southern Province of Sri Lanka. Adding to his achievements, he was a Crown Proctor, Acting Magistrate of Galle and Vice President of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka and the President of the Bar Association of Galle an ardent reader and author.

The property was passed down to his daughters, the Chairman of Villa Birdlake Ranee Weerasooriya and Managing Director, Chrishanthi Weerasooriya and eventually to her son Director of Villa Birdlake, Treshan Weerasooriya; who are now overlooking and operating the property. “The hotel means a lot to me; it was my father’s last wish to make this into a beautiful place. My sister Rani and I were determined to make his dream true,” Chrishanthi stated.

The property was originally a private residence, however with the passage of time and a passion, the hotel has undergone renovations in the past three years with great pains taken to protect the original structure and features of this property’s rich character and history. Blending the old with the new, the main structure is a combination of a colonial and a state-of-the-art modern boutique.

Tastefully furnished, the interior stands out on its own. The walls are adorned with decorations, all hand-picked by the owners. The rooms have a tropical vibe running through them. The property is a work of art and can be utilised for photo shoots. Trademark style extends to all living spaces.
