WE DON’T WANT NONE UNLESS YOU’VE GOT BUNS HUN

Currently only available through delivery they can be found on instagram under the handle @Cinnabrown.lk, they truly have everyone craving warm soft cinnamon buns.

Born from the owner’s love of cinnamon buns and filling a gaping hole in the dessert market in Colombo they have focused their efforts on producing one thing and they do it pretty darned well. To get in touch just slide into their DM’s or give them a call.

Sumptuous, soft and cinnamon-y this really is a can’t miss, you can almost smell it through your phone screen! Obviously the prices are steep with our order coming in at roughly Rs.5400 inclusive of delivery charge, however, each cinnamon bun is about the size of a small hand and they have ‘minibon’ options if you simply feel like a light nosh (snack).

FLAVOURS

Classic – LKR 550

By far the best of the lot, proving once again that old is gold, there was absolutely NOTHING wrong with this cinnamon bun except that maybe we didn’t order enough of them. The pastry itself was soft, chewy and buttery, and the filling straddled that beautifully delicate line of sweet, sticky and cinnamon-y. I got a nice big bite and honest to god it tasted so authentic, I was transported to a patisserie in Europe. Everything worked so well together– pastry, sugar, cinnamon – all melding together creating the perfect bite every time. Simple but far beyond perfect.

If this sounds like a love letter to the pastry, well … IT IS.

Tiramisu – LKR 690

Coming in as our second favourite, this bun was so incredibly moist it was almost falling apart. With a mascarpone whipped cream on top dusted with coco powder and coffee, this tasted like the perfect blend between a tiramisu and a cinnamon bun. It melted in our mouths, with all the right flavours; the cinnamon-y sweetness of the filling, creaminess, mild saltiness and tang from the mascarpone, bitterness from the coco powder and coffee, and the buttery-ness of the pastry. It honestly reminded me of the holidays – like Christmas in my mouth.

Mocha – LKR 640

This was our least favourite of the lot, the bun was overpowered by the taste of the sickly sweet mocha glaze, which clashed with the flavour of cinnamon and even drowned the taste of the almonds set atop it. I also struggled to taste any chocolate, maybe a hint of a bitter dark chocolate could offset the saccharine nature of the glaze. If you’re a fan of having your afternoon coffee made quite sweet this may be a flavour you’d enjoy, but it just wasn’t for us.

Nutella – LKR 720

The Nutella option was essentially the regular cinnamon bun with an extremely generous slathering of Nutella on top. For all the Nutella lovers out there this will be your go to as there was no shortage of Nutella here, it was almost overpowering. In fact, as much as I adore Nutella, being able to taste all the other ingredients is also essential. However this wasn’t actually bad, all of its components were great – the bun was delicious, and the Nutella was Nutella.

Double Chocolate Chip – LKR 640

There were 2 things going on with this topping; a chocolate lover’s dream, this bun was topped with a dark chocolate ganache, and speckled with a generous layer of chocolate chips. Upon your first bite you get the taste of ganache and cinnamon and then the chocolate chips provide you with a textural bite. It’s a lot at first but you get used to it as you make your way through the bun. It’s a lot of chocolate so if you’re not a fan of chocolate beware! I’ve also come to a realization that the combination of chocolate and cinnamon requires a delicate balance, my feelings remain undecided on whether I’m a fan or not.

S’berry Minibons Bowl (Serves 3) – LKR 1890

This minibon bowl was a hefty portion of minibons placed into a plastic container mingled in and topped with cream, drizzles of chocolate sauce and plenty of strawberries. It definitely fed far more than 3 people and could be fit for 4-5 people as a sweet treat, or at least 3 very hungry people as a full-fledged dessert or snack.

The fresh cream and strawberries gave a lighter fresher element to the cinnamon minibons, and the tartness of the strawberries offset the sweetness of the cinnamon sugar filling.  The cinnamon and fruit pairing also seemed to go down better with the crowd than the chocolate cinnamon combinations. And as much am I am a chocolate loyalist, this time the fruit won out – it was just fresher and lighter, and the tartness of the strawberries really just brought a whole other element to the bowl.

Service

The service is pretty friendly and fast, bad weather conditions may cause minor hiccups but somehow deliveries will always make it to your door. They work quickly sending you a menu and price list for their items almost immediately which is great! They also offer two payment options which are cash on delivery or bank transfers, and upon request they will even send you a receipt to your email.

Tip – The original is truly the best! We also suggest you order these in bulk either for a party or to share for a special occasion, this way the price tends to make sense
