Hey.
Hey, you.
This is small letter to fill your day with positivity.
Have you noticed lately how there’s all these really negative waves of emotion around, making it sort of difficult to keep your chin up?
If you haven’t, I’m so glad. It means you’ve been having a streak of great moods and days and I’m so happy for you. Please make sure to pass that on to at least one person, happiness is the only thing that multiplies when it’s shared.
But if you have been going through a tough time lately, hear me out. This is going to be really short, I swear. Please read this through so I can make at least today a little bit brighter for you.
It’s going to get better. I’m not going to say you’re beautiful, you’re handsome, and you’re wonderful, you’re strong because you’ve heard all of those things already; you need to know that they’re not being said “just because.” People don’t say things like that if they don’t mean it.
What I am going to say is this: pick and choose exactly what you’re going to care about. A whole sea of water cannot sink a ship unless it gets inside the ship. In the same way, none of the negativity in the world can affect you unless you let it.
Read lighthearted books.
Go through the instagram page “Gives Me Hope.”
Sit in front of your window and let the sun stream down and warm your skin while you listen to piano music.
Go on Rainy Mood and mix your favourite instrumental music with the rumblings of thunder or the soft pitter-patter of slow raindrops.
Cook something from start to finish.
Clean your room out, put on fresh sheets and have a nice bath.
Spend the day loving yourself. Please.
I know things are really difficult sometimes, that things happen to you or to someone you love or even to people you don’t even know; like the people dying or being displaced in the floods and the state of the refugee crisis and the death of that gorgeous gorilla and people getting hurt at Trump rallies, but don’t let that get to you. Okay?
A lot of bad things happen to great people. It’s a fact of life. It’s malicious and sickening, but the whole point of life is that it’s not fair. No one person can change the world. We all need to come together to do that. All you could possibly hope to do, by yourself, is spread as much love and positivity as possible to keep the world from becoming a dark place. And you can’t do that until you love you.
