A Vogue-esque Café serving up healthy and chic.

Superfood Café is the new kid on the block and they are a chic restaurant that serves up healthy, photo worthy and 100% Instagram (and health) friendly dishes. They share the outdoor space with the beautiful boutique hotel, Villa Raha and are run by the power couple, Amande and Ruta.

The outdoor area that Superfood Café operates in is decorated beautifully. Massive, ‘millennial pink’ metallic domes hang down the tall glass ceiling that is also populated by green planters and colorful flowers. This Café looks straight out of an Architectural Digest magazine and is the perfect testament to everything that is modern yet elegant.

The hosts are super friendly and, overall, it’s one of the nicest restaurants in Colombo that we’ve been to. Another plus is the fact that they are BYOB, and you can also rent the small space out for private parties/events!

I also feel the need to make an honorary mention of their super cute menu (visually and in terms of the dishes they serve)! – Clean, sophisticated, and simple.

Drinks

Even their water is healthy! The have two types of detox water, one with cucumber and the other with beetroot – how amazing is that!

Heart Beet – LKR 300

The two drinks we tried were of their section on slow pressed juices. The Heart Beet was a beetroot detox juice that was a combination of beetroot, pineapple, apple and carrots.

Smoothing Kale – LKR 300

Ah Kale, the green epitome of all things healthy. I was expecting the worst with the kale juice but it’s safe to say that this was a good one. It was a mix of cantaloupe melon, carrots, kale and apple. Although it sounds like the combo may taste like bland kolakanda, it really wasn’t!

Mains

Like the name suggests, their menu serves up most dishes that consists of fruits, veggies, grains and dairy.

Full Breakfast – LKR 920

The minute I saw the “All Day Breakfast” on their menu, I knew that my day has been made. The Full Breakfast was by far the best of the three and consisted of the classic elements that were, eggs, sausages, ham and sautéed mushrooms. The egg was incredibly fluffy and the bacon opted out for ham wasn’t a bad switch after all.

The Benedict – LKR 850 (+ chicken ham LKR 150)

The Eggs Benny was a showstopper. It was the classic avocado and cream cheese topped with the perfect poached egg.

Smoked Salmon – LKR 920

Our final try out was their smoked salmon sandwich which was one intent to be smoked salmon with cream cheese served on a bagel. However, since they had run out of stock of bagels that day, they served us whole-wheat bread instead. This dish felt like a delicacy, and was plated like one. The smoked salmon was fresh, wasn’t too salty and combined deliciously with the cream cheese. Basics, but executed to perfection!
