When it comes to fashion advice, it seems like we all have tried-and-true advice we absolutely live by. Some are useful, and the rest… well, not so much. So, it makes sense that we all have a few clothing tips and tricks up our sleeve. Everything from style ad fashion to the little tricks that’ll help you with dilemmas we all have with our tight jeans and uncomfortable shoes. Some of these clothing tips wished I’d have known them years ago! So, I thought I’d pass the wisdom on for other people that wear clothes. I figured there were a lot of you, so listen close…
-
Embrace your shape
“Once you know which silhouettes flatter you, filter trends ruthlessly,” says designer Shoshanna Gruss. For instance, if you’re small and petite, it’s best if you avoid tall columns and billowy maxis no matter how much you love them. A dress with a defined waist and a just-above-the-knee hem will look perfect on you.
-
Show skin strategically
Looking truly sexy involves knowing what to bare and what to cover up. Otherwise, where’s the mystery in that? “Choose one, only one body part and show it off,” advises Jen Rade, stylist to Jenna Fischer and Angelina Jolie. “If it’s cleavage, don’t show your legs. If it’s your legs, stay covered on top.” Don’t bare too much!
-
Accessorize in brights
If you’ve got outfits full of neutrals – be they navy, gray, black – add energy with boldly hued shoes and bags. Not only is a bright yellow satchel livelier than a black tote, but it’s also surprisingly versatile. Don’t be afraid to make a statement wherever you go!
-
Mix your prints
It takes practice to come up with the perfect outfit with the perfect blend of colour, scale and pattern. But, there are some basic tricks to getting it right. You can wear two prints that repeat the same colours or mix a large-scale pattern with a smaller one. But when you do decide to mix print with print, you need to be very careful because one wrong decision and you would end up looking like a disaster.
-
Add an element of surprise
This isn’t something I suggest you do every day, but once in a while, add an element of surprise to your outfits. Whether it’s grosgrain with sequins, a motorcycle jacket over a formal dress, an oversize choker with a simple white tee, or a vivid belt, a touch of contrast can take your outfit from good to great.
-
Layer your necklaces
Coco Chanel’s more-is-more approach still makes a statement today. You can try doing multiples of the same necklace, or better yet, go for contrast.

Wearing white? Seek out light
Keep in mind; white clothes look more see through in daylight. This doesn’t only apply to white clothes but also clothes with lighter shades of colour. Check yourself out in a bright setting just to be safe. You don’t want to see unnecessary pops of bright colour from the inside.
-
When in doubt, wear nude pumps
Maybe you’re in a hurry or maybe you’re completely lost with what shoes you want to wear. In situations like this, nude pumps matched to your skin tone are a safe bet. They also make you look sophisticated and simple at the same time. It’s a win-win.
-
Buy a bargain if you love it
We’ve all made the mistake of not listening to our inside voice the first time we want buy something and then having to go back again and finding it not on the racks anymore. If you don’t scoop it now, you’d probably never see it again!
-
Conquer your fear of colour
To play it safe, combine a neutral, like flax, with something bolder, like yellow. But think twice about pairing intense hues with black, which “can look dates,” says designer Chris Benz. For something punchier, try two colours that are beside each other on the colour wheel, such as coal and orange. Not sure where to begin? “Notice what colours you love and respond to in your deco,” says Benz.
Make the most of every single day with these tips that can help you come up with the perfect outfit for work, school or the parties! We can all put together a stylish outfit. Take a chic outfit to the next level? A little It-girl fairy dust, of course
