Love it or hate it, getting a haircut is an inevitable part of every dude’s life. Even though guys don’t usually care about haircuts as much as girls, we still have to go through a few stages before and after, much like our female counterparts. So here are the stages every Lankan guy experiences when getting a haircut.
The Decision.
So, you’ve decided you need to get a haircut. This may be because of a nagging significant other, or because of all the chickaays and comments you have to listen to from your relatives and parents. Heck, maybe you just decided that you want to change up your look. Either way, there’s no turning back now. *shudders*
“Is this really what I want?”
You’re sitting there in the salon, staring at yourself in the mirror as you watch portions of your hair fall on the floor. To be honest things are going pretty well until you ask yourself, “Is this really what I want?” This is when you wonder if you made the right choice. As you start to lose more and more of your hair, paranoia gets the better of you and you wonder what the end product is going to look like. Cue the horrible visions of your future self.
Regret.
Your haircut is done. The barber starts to dust you off to get the bits of excess hair that did not make it to the floor (see, your hair does not want to part ways with you). The only thing you can do right now is to stare blankly at the mirror. Regret has set in. But fear not because more often than not, you don’t look half as bad as you think. It’s just that you aren’t used to seeing yourself with your new haircut (duhh). Then again, there’s no point in me telling you that because it won’t change your attitude about it hehe.
Acceptance.
As the days pass, you find that you aren’t thinking about what your hair looks like as much as before. It isn’t that you’re exactly happy with it, but you learn to live with it. A week or two goes by and suddenly you’ll find yourself looking in the mirror and you’ll realize that your hair actually looks pretty good! After all, good things do take time. Although funnily enough, the second your hair starts to look good, the chickaays and the comments start floating around again *sigh*
There you have it! No matter how your haircut went, I’m going to let you in on an inalienable truth; In case you didn’t already know, hair eventually grows back. So to all the dudes out there, don’t stress too much about getting a haircut! Just exude confidence and rock that new look! When your hair eventually grows back, there’s your chance to experiment with another new look. Although you have to be willing to go through those stages again. (Don’t say I didn’t warn you)
