What we had
Tea Avenue’s latest.
Tea Avenue has now expanded to Marine Drive, with its perfect shakes and ice-cream burgers. They’ve got 3 outlets; Barnes Place, World Trade Center and now Kollpity. We were expecting nothing but warm smiles and delicious food when we stepped into their latest outlet last week. We noticed that it still carried the smell of new paint, and the atmosphere of one. For the two hours we were there, there was one other customer besides us at the cafe. They are open for business people, and you’ve got to check it out!
Drinks:
Ferrero Lavish – LKR 850
It is impossible to describe the sensation that overtakes you when you sip down their signature Ferrero Lavish. I honestly never have anything to complain about when it comes to this drink as I am blinded by my love for it. The shake was thick and incredibly chocolate-y. The whipped cream and the Ferrero Rocher were the cherries that completed this heavenly drink. The price is steep at LKR 850, but mind you, it is also very filling and is recommended that its shared by 2 people. It is a drink I’d recommend people try at least once in their life.
Nutella Milkshake – LKR 650
The Nutella Milkshake, is the cheaper alternative without the whole parade of the whipped cream and the Rocher like in the Ferrero Lavish. The Nutella milkshake is no doubt, one of the best chocolate milkshakes I’ve had in the city.
Pasta:
Chicken Lasagne – LKR 800
I was quite skeptical of the lasagna because my experience wasn’t a great one the first time I tried it; the sheets were soggy, the cheese wasn’t stringy enough and the sauce was overpowering. However, I must say, this one was a breath of fresh air. The lasagna wasn’t aesthetically pleasing (is lasagna ever?) but it tasted really good. The tomato sauce was flavourful and the cheese was evenly layered on top. This one was a real winner!
Creamy Chicken Pasta – LKR 850
I would definitely recommend their Creamy Cheese Pasta and this is one I will go back for. We picked Spaghetti over Penne and that really is up to your preference. The pasta was a little over Al Dente but the creaminess of the sauce really makes up for that factor.
Sandwiches:
BBQ Chicken – LKR 740
The BBQ Chicken sandwich wasn’t a show stopper. I picked brown ciabatta bread (duh, healthy) but my bread was a lot harder than ciabatta bread normally is. The BBQ chicken filling inside was yummy, the taste was such that I kept thinking of pineapples, and the sauce combined well with the chicken. However, for me, this isn’t a sandwich I can take more than a few bites of. Something about it just forces you to ditch it and switch to another main instead.
