Today, on October 13th, the whole world commemorates World Sight Day. Thousands of campaigns and projects are happening all around the world to increase awareness about the importance of eye donations. The Blind Walk is one of them.
The concept of the Blind Walk has become a very meaningful program to promote the donation of eyes. The idea behind it is to give people the experience of being blind, where people with vision are can experience the very demanding challenge of being visually impaired and to create awareness on this cause.
The Project Vision in Bangalore, India are organizing a Blind Walk which, this year, will be held concurrentlyin four countries – the USA, China, India and Sri Lanka.
Ada Derana, Sri Lanka’s No. 1 entertainment channel which hosts Sri Lanka’s most visited news website, is joining this force in a very innovative way. For the first time in Sri Lanka and probably the first time in the world, Ada Derana is changing its logo to a Braille font with the message of ‘Blind to comprehension while you have sight – Comprehension only dawns when you go blind’.
285 million people are visually impaired across the world while 200,000 people in Sri Lanka are believed to be blind. You can donate your eyes so that someone else can see the world when you no longer need them.
The Rotary Club of Colombo Midtown, with our sponsor Rotaract Clubs – The Rotaract Clubs of Colombo Midtown, Australian College of Business and Technology, University of Colombo – Faculty of Management & Finance and Achievers Lanka Business School; along with The Project Vision in Bangalore, India are organizing A Blind Walk starting at 3 pm from Royal Collage Colombo today to create awareness about this cause.
