EQUAL GROUND Partners with Selyn, Brunch, Yellow Dot and Pulse for Colombo PRIDE 2021

2021 Jun 10

Colombo PRIDE continues to grow in strength, and this year is no different. Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Colombo PRIDE’s network of LGBTIQ rights organisations and supportive allies are growing. The latest additions to Colombo PRIDE 2021 are Selyn (local business partner), Yellow Dot (social media partner), Pulse (online media partner), and Brunch (digital media partner).

Selyn’s PIN IT WITH PRIDE partnership is launched to raise awareness, educate, and support the efforts of the LGBTIQ cause in Sri Lanka. Collaboration with EQUAL GROUND will ensure that the staff at Selyn will be trained in their Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) programme while continuing to support their advocacy efforts.

As digital and online media partners, Brunch and Pulse will be providing media visibility to Colombo PRIDE 2021, with articles, videos, and social media content. This is a great way to take the message of Colombo PRIDE to the wider public and promote the spirit of Colombo PRIDE 2021 in all corners of Sri Lanka.

Yellow Dot, founded on the principles of equality, inclusivity, reconciliation and peaceful co-existence, strives for the protection of vulnerable and marginalised groups through awareness, empowerment, and advocacy. For PRIDE, the organisation will host weekly podcasts with queer personalities as well as interactive discussions.

“We’ve come a long way in terms of LGBTIQ+ rights and awareness in Sri Lanka, but we still have a long way to go! Industry partnerships, especially those with partners that work across rural areas and outside of big cities, are a good way to help spread awareness and education.  We are therefore delighted that Selyn has joined hands with us for PRIDE and will continue after that with instilling diversity and inclusion in their workplace!” said EQUAL GROUND Executive Director, Rosanna Flamer-Caldera.

“Meanwhile, the role media plays in sensitising and educating the general public on LGBTIQ rights cannot be overstated. The media is one of our strongest allies to get our message across to all Sri Lankans. Therefore, we are extremely grateful that Brunch and Pulse have come on board as digital and online media partners.”

“Social media is another important medium and a place for thriving LGBTIQ rights activists, especially for youth activists. Therefore, we are happy to have Yellow Dot Organisation collaborate with us. Together, we can make Colombo PRIDE 2021 a roaring success!” she added.
