Hotels in Colombo: Recovering from the Easter Sunday Attacks

The untimely coordinated explosions on Easter Sunday, 21st of April, 2019 shook Sri Lanka in its entirety; natives and tourists alike. Now, a week later, the country seems to be regaining a sense of normalcy, while business establishments are in the process of operating as normal. Here’s an overview of hotels in Colombo and their current state of operations.

Cinnamon Grand, Colombo
One of the affected hotels, security measures have been enhanced and additional safety measures have been introduced in consultation with the authorities and security experts. They commenced taking new bookings from Monday, 22nd of April, 2019. All restaurants are now open for business, excluding those in the affected area on the lower ground floor at the rear of the hotel. The hotel reopened  to the public today, on Tuesday, 30th of April, 2019. All prior bookings for banquets and rooms continue as planned.

Shangri–La Colombo
Most badly affected, the hotel remains secured by the military and police. They are currently not in operation and plan to resume operations on Monday, 10th June 2019.

The Kingsbury Hotel
The Kingsbury resumed operations on Thursday, 25th April 2019. However only three restaurants have reopened for business: Yue Chuan, Ce La Vie, and The Kings Bar. The Harbour Court, The Ocean, and The Gourmet Station are not yet open.

Cinnamon Lakeside, Colombo
Currently open to in-house guests, security measures have been enhanced and additional safety measures have been introduced in consultation with the authorities and security experts.

Hotel Galadari
Galadari is functioning normally, accepting only online bookings, with all restaurants operational as usual.

Galle Face Hotel
The hotel continues to accommodate in–house guests. However, the hotel is still not open to walk–in guests. They hope to resume operations soon (date unconfirmed).

Ramada Colombo
All guests will have to undergo a full security procedure while operations continue as usual.

Mövenpick Hotel Colombo
The hotel continues to accommodate in–house guests. F and B not open to outside guests. The Robata Grill is not in operation and there will be no lunch buffet at AYU on weekdays; guests must order from the à la carte menu. Premises are secured by the police and armed forces. The hotel plans to resume operations next week. Note that although the gym is open for members, the car park is still closed.

Jetwing Colombo 7
Premises are secured by the police and armed forces. Operation continue as normal.

Hilton Colombo Residences
Operations continue as normal.

Taj Samudra

Taj has revamped the security measures at the hotel which has been taken over by local authorities. Ports of Call, Navratna Restaurant and Golden Dragon will be reopen to the public on the 1st of May, along with new bookings from this date onwards.
