What we had
Great quantities for affordable prices!
With an open kitchen, La Veranda brings something unique to Colombo’s café spread. Their menu is extensive with the mains and they offer an array of sandwiches, wraps, burgers, noodles, pasta, spaghetti, rice, and even kotthu. We visited La Veranda for dinner, so unfortunately we could not try their breakfast menu.
Due to the open kitchen however, the café could get very warm and humid inside as there is no air conditioning but they have a few outdoor tables so be sure to sit outside! We were also quite disappointed about the cleanliness of the place.
Drinks
Their beverages range from fruit juices to milkshakes to hot beverages and also the usual cool drinks. Be sure to check what is available, because when we went the milkshakes and some fruit juices were not available.
Passion Fruit Juice – LKR 250

This juice was refreshing and wasn’t too sweet so we were very pleased. The passion fruit tasted fresh and was just the drink we needed with the heat!
Orange Juice – LKR 250

This drink was the total opposite of the passion fruit juice. The water to orange ratio was way off and it was too diluted. It was also very sweet and needless to say we were disappointed. The orange, tangy flavour was not prominent and there was no hint of citrus in the beverage.
Mains
Nasi Goreng – LKR 500

This dish was so worth the price! They were not stingy with the seafood and who doesn’t like seafood! There were rings of calamari, cubes of fish and plenty of cuttlefish. The egg on top was perfectly runny and combined well with the rice.
Seafood Pasta – LKR 550

We were quite disappointed with this dish because the seafood wasn’t cooked as well as it was in the Nasi. The pasta was cooked al dente which was good but the dish as a whole tasted more Sri Lankan than Italian. We also thought it lacked seasoning.
Double Chicken Burger – LKR 550

The highlight of the night, the Double Chicken Burger consisted of slices of tomato, onion and cucumber, lettuce, a slice of cheese, mayonnaise and last but most definitely not the least, a succulent chicken patty made from scratch. The ingredients combined so well making the burger super delicious! The dish also came with a generous side of fries which were crispy and seasoned well.
The service at La Veranda was quite good, the staff was friendly and our food was made fast. Of course, there was the added benefit of seeing our food being made through their open kitchen.
