Colombo’s latest burger joint!

A simple Google search revealed that Takeout was actually a burger joint whose country of origin was Bangladesh. They seem to be quite a hit there, but will they conquer the streets of Colombo, like they Dhaka? Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem like.

Here’s why. Although they are nestled in the busy work scene of Colombo 02, the restaurant and interior reeks of emptiness and despair. So, one thing about the place is the fact that they are a “takeaway” joint so whatever they serve to the table, when you dine in, is also packed and packaged to go. Hence I didn’t understand why they thought of starting up at a fairly bigger space. Since the place is quite big (for a burger joint), and since there’s barely anyone dining in, the ambiance is pretty dull. I see Takeout operating quite successfully as a corner shop or out of a truck instead.

Furthermore, as far as the food went, the menu focuses on burgers and burgers only. Sadly though, they don’t have any veg options on the menu. Just chicken and beef. Although some were delicious the burgers do come at a heavy price point so we were left wondering if they were completely worth it.

Drinks

Sparking Lime – LKR 350

The sparkling lime wasn’t anything too special. It was your store-bought Sprite with some mint and lime chucked into it.

When picking your shake of choice, you also have the option to pick the base you opt to have your contents stirred into. You have the liberty of picking either Vanilla, Chocolate or Strawberry.

Hershey’s shake – LKR 350

For the Hershey’s shake, I opted for a chocolate base. The Hershey’s shake, for LKR 350, was quite mediocre. The chocolate and the milk were a classic combo but as a milkshake, it was lacking.

Oreo Shake – LKR 350

For the Oreo Shake, the base we chose was Vanilla. So this one, we were quite eager to have, because Oreo! Unfortunately it tasted quite like the Hershey’s and it had chunks of Oreo in it so it was very difficult to drink through the straw.

Appetizers

Fries: Large – LKR 350

The Fries were somewhere between thick cut and store bought fries. They were crispy, sprinkled with chili on top and accompanied by a cheesy dip.

Mains

For the burgers, you have the liberty of choosing where in the spice meter you want to your burger be stationed at, ranging from Regular, to Spicy and Extra Spicy.

Takeout Special Beef Burger – LKR 800

The Takeout Special Beef Burger was from the Specials section. The patty was quite large and was accompanied by salad leaves and a melted slice of cheese, but it wasn’t really anything too special.

Chicken Cheese Delight – LKR 750

The Chicken Cheese Delight is a burger that’s out of the ‘Chefs special’ corner. It’s a double chicken fillet combined with melted cheese inside. This one, was actually quite a score. It was insanely cheesy, and the patty was quite delicious.

BBQ Chicken Burger – LKR 500

This burger was out of their ‘Regulars’ but we actually preferred this over the Takeout Special we had. The patty was charred and smoky, and the sauce inside was so good.

Have you popped by Takeout yet? Let us know what you think of it in the comments below! Is there anything we’ve missed?

Tip: Try the Cheese Delight Burger!
