Want to wear that mascara or bold lip color but too afraid of it smearing and it dripping all over your face due to the unavoidable Sri Lankan rainy weather?
Well, what if I told you this was still possible through following a couple of beauty tips and tricks that will help keep your look in check with hardly any extra effort at all.
1. The sun isn’t shining so neither should your face
With more than enough moisture in the air, try to eliminate any forms of overly moisturizing products from your daily skincare and makeup routine to avoid looking like a complete greaseball. The overall humidity is likely to break down any form of heavy makeup so stick to lightweight tinted moisturizers as opposed to full on foundations. In these situations, powders will be your best friend, remember to take a mini compact with you everywhere! As well as oil blotting sheets which act as a handy substitute.
2. Waterproof!
At these times, ownership of a waterproof mascara or eyeliner is absolutely necessary due to the unfortunate environmental factors as well as your own natural oils breaking down the product. However, due to budget constraints or just being too lazy to buy a new tube of mascara; a simple tip is to use any black eye shadow or talcum powder to set your mascara or eyeliner in place all day. This locks the liquid/cream product making it harder for it to be broken down by moisture – successfully keeping your eye makeup in place all day.
3. Line your smile
Bright lips are difficult to keep in place even when the weather is conducive, but that doesn’t mean they should be avoided entirely! An easy tip to make sure the color stays in place all day without it feathering or smearing around due to the humidity is to line your lips. Try to use a lip liner with a waxy base to keep your lips waterproof all day. Use matte lipsticks and avoid lip gloss at all costs!
4. Defrizz
Rain combined with humidity will make your hair frizz – not a good look. To prevent this, you need keep your hair’s cuticle sealed. A quick and simple remedy is applying a small amount of gel or mousse all over the hair so that the entire follicle is smooth. Use dry shampoo or talcum powder to prevent your hair greasing up due to the excess moisture in the air.
5. Avoid Dark colors on the eyes
With the already dim lighting enhancing any dullness and tiredness under the eyes, the last thing you’d want to do is make it worse with darker colors on the lid. This would give the appearance of tired droopy eyes as opposed to lifted bright eyes, which could be created by swapping out dark browns and grey’s for champagne and rose gold tones. Use shimmer shades as opposed to mattes which wont enhance the eyes due to the poor lighting.
Remember to prepare yourself for any mishaps that could occur and always carry wet wipes in your purse!
Have a great Monsoon season 🙂
