Italian Taste Beyond Just Pizza and Pasta
Artisan Diletto makes a convincing case for why Italian dining in Colombo doesn’t have to begin and end with pizza and pasta. They dive deep into specific Italian regional specialities, like Florentine fritti and Neapolitan-style beef. Bringing imported quality front and centre (think Italian double-zero croissant flour and real Pecorino Romano and Parmigiano-Reggiano), this spot balances high culinary standards with an approachable, casual charm.
Appetizers
Seafood Fritti – LKR 4,500 (5/5)
Beautifully presented in a cone, wrapped in custom-printed paper and garnished with fresh greens, two dipping sauces, and lime wedges. Instead of a heavy wet batter that turns soggy, they use a seasoned dry coating that lets the delectable ocean flavour shine. The cuttlefish remains crisp without turning rubbery, and the prawns are cooked just right. While the light lemon butter sauce is pleasant, the cilantro chutney is the real star; a vibrant, herbaceous flavour bomb. It’s a massive portion for sharing that easily feeds three.
Fusion Loaded Fries – LKR 2,150 (5/5)
A delicious local twist on classic comfort food. Crispy, well-seasoned fries that come layered with crunchy fried chicken and drizzled in a smooth sriracha mayo that balances heat and tanginess nicely. The bits of fried karapincha (curry leaves) on top add a subtle aroma and a fun Sri Lankan kick. The fries themselves are solid, but it’s the sauce and chicken combination that makes this dish stand out.
Mains
Pulled Beef Panini – LKR 2,550 (5/5)
While it may not look as flashy on the plate as the croissants, this sandwich is deeply satisfying. Packed with soft, juicy, 3-hour slow-cooked pulled beef chuck, the meat carries a subtle sweetness from its glaze. The focaccia-style bread is airy and springy with hints of olive oil, while fresh lettuce adds a much-needed crisp texture. A hearty, massive portion that easily makes up for its unsuspectingly modest looks.
Smoked Salmon Croissant – LKR 3,600 (4/5)
Generously layered with pink smoked salmon slices and mildly seasoned cream cheese inside a flaky croissant. The capers and fresh dill provide a bright, herbal bite that cuts through the rich cream cheese and adds some textural snap. However, the salmon itself leans quite heavily on the salty side, occasionally overpowering the cream cheese and the delicate, buttery pastry encasing it.
Carbonara (P) – LKR 2,950 (4/5)
Visually appealing, served in a sleek bowl with crispy bits of guanciale (Italian bacon). Made traditionally with imported Pecorino Romano and Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese, the sauce is rich and creamy, and the guanciale delivers a wonderful salty crunch. However, the overall flavour profile leans surprisingly mild and slightly bland. It relies heavily on the bacon for flavour and needs an added crack of black pepper and sea salt to wake up the dish.
Desserts
Pistachio Cornetto (Croissant) – LKR 1,550 (5/5)
This croissant is a total head-turner. The generous portion comes filled with a thick, saturated pistachio cream that delivers authentic nuttiness without feeling artificially sweet. A generous layer of crushed pistachios on top prevents the smooth cream from becoming texturally flat, while the pastry itself strikes that coveted balance between flaky, buttery layers and a pleasantly springy bite. Absolute perfection for any pistachio fan.
Tiramisù – LKR 2,300 (4/5)
This dessert is a treat for the eyes, with a charming presentation featuring cocoa dusting and fresh strawberries alongside neatly layered sponge and mascarpone cream. The high-quality coffee comes through clean and aromatic without being overly sweet. While the cream-to-cake ratio is well balanced, the sponge itself could use a bit more coffee soak, as it feels slightly dry in the centre.
Mocha Panna Cotta – LKR 1,250 (4/5)
A simple dish, with a silky, gelatinous jiggle, minimally decorated with a dark chocolate drizzle. It carries a punchy, slightly bitter espresso flavour that coffee purists will appreciate. However, it is a bit one-dimensional; the chocolate drizzle doesn’t add much flavour, leaving the dessert feeling slightly plain texturally and conceptually.
Beverages
Classic Italian Hot Chocolate (with Condiments) – LKR 1,750 (4/5)
True to authentic Italian style, this drink is extraordinarily thick and velvety, almost leaning toward a rich chocolate mousse consistency. The dark chocolate tastes high-grade and silky, while the mini marshmallows, blowtorched right at your table, add a sweet, bouncy touch. It’s deeply comforting, though its extreme richness means it can become a bit heavy after a few sips.
Biscoff Milkshake – LKR 1,550 (5/5)
An absolute hit for Biscoff lovers. Served with whipped cream, a caramel drizzle, and a glass smeared with cookie crumbs, it offers a rich, velvety texture packed with Biscoff cookie flavour. The biscuit crumbs on top add a fun crunch to an otherwise smooth, indulgent drink.
Caffè Mocha – LKR 1,200 (4.5/5)
Served with neat latte art and a crisp little biscuit on the side. It strikes a great balance between dark, bitter cocoa and quality coffee, delivering a warm, comforting profile. It’s a solid drink, perfect for anyone seeking a quick caffeine fix.
Mango Matcha Latte – LKR 1,950 (4/5)
A stunning three-tiered creation featuring mango syrup and an orange slice at the base, with a layer of milk, and a matcha float to top it off. The matcha itself tastes premium, with its signature earthy quality. However, the mango syrup is quite strong and sweet, slightly overpowering the subtle notes of the matcha.
Lychee Sour Blizz – LKR 1,450 (4/5)
A visually stunning blue ombre drink topped with fresh mint leaves over crushed ice. It delivers a fun candy-sour punch that feels instantly refreshing. The only downside is that the lychee note gets lost in the tanginess and is almost undetectable.
Ambience
Artisan Diletto captures a relaxed, romantic vibe. Sunlight streams in through the large glass windows, accompanied by the cosy aesthetic lighting setup inside, making the area feel bright and spacious. Modern acoustic covers play softly in the background, creating a comfortable atmosphere where light chatter flows easily. It works wonderfully as a date spot or a casual nook for catching up over coffee and pastries.
