It is another celebratory day for Sri Lankans everywhere as Dilruk Jayasinha – Melbourne based comedian and stand-up artist bags the Graham Kennedy Award for Most Outstanding Newcomer at the Australian TV Week Logie Awards for his role as Ashan De Silva on the TV series Utopia.
The Sri Lankan moved to Melbourne for university in his youth and having graduated with a degree in accounting, joined the rat race. But soon after, his passion sought him out. After a series of events, beginning with performing at an Open Mic in 2010 and continuing on to being unceremoniously fired from his accounting job, Dilruk realised that his heart really lay in comedy.

Years down the line, Dil is now a regular in making the land down under chuckle, showcasing his talents at major events such as the Just for Laughs festival, Network Ten’s Have You Been Paying Attention? and performing at a sold out show at the Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2017 with his show The Art of the Dil. He also hosts many loved and laughed at podcasts and is referred to as one of the most refreshing and exciting voices in Australian comedy.
Brilliant Sri Lankans such as Dilruk have been, and will continue, to make a mark for Sri Lanka all around the world – in a myriad of different fields be it entertainment, science or technology – and will keep doing our nation proud.
