Best Dressed at the Derana Sunsilk Film Awards 2017

2017 Oct 9

It’s that time of the year when The Derana Sunsilk Film Awards takes Sri Lanka by storm yet again, with its fifth edition being held at the Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapakse Theatre with much grandeur and fanfare. As expected, the elite, the renowned and the hella good looking were in attendance in numbers as idols of the Sri Lankan Film Industry were awarded for their tireless contributions.

Without a doubt, the invitees served enough looks to feed a homeless man and definitely did not disappoint when it came to hair, wear and makeup. Though many can be praised for their outfits and the effort put into their appearance that night, there are a few who stand out.

Malini Fonseka

Oh, how we all wish we could age as fine as the beautiful Mrs. Fonseka. Like wine, she only grows more beautiful with age and was absolutely stunning during the awards. Her deep plum saree and brocade blouse reflected her well-seasoned red carpet demeanor and she sure does turn a few heads wherever she goes. With a simple up-do and subdued jewelry to compliment her outfit, she served a look fit for a queen!

Imaya Liyanage

From her beauty pageant beginnings to red carpet struts, Imaya Liyanage sure does know how to personify grace. She attended the awards in regal colors and rich embroidery, accented by gorgeous Indian jewelry, all pulled together with a simple pottu. Viewers would never have guessed she’s only in her late twenties because this outfit was the walking version of elegance and sophistication. Real kudos here!

Udari Warnakulasooriya

Can one ever go wrong with a deep purple train that drags along the stage as you receive your award? Udari proves not! The Sunsilk Shine Award Winner turned heads when she walked the carpet in this off shoulder embroidered number. The sleeked back, high ponytail definitely pulled the outfit together and simply had us boiling in envy.

Dinakshie Priyasad

Born into a life of stardom, Dinakshie and her sister are known to wow the crowds with their glamour. This time, the 27-year-old actress stunned in an orange Kamil Hewavitharana number with interesting detailing on the body, sleeve and skirt. Butterfly sleeves seem to be in this season giving off a Game of Thrones vibe and Dinakshie sure does look princess-like in this dress.

Yashoda Wimaladharma

Yet another well-seasoned woman of the Sri Lankan Film industry, Yashoda Wimaladharma made a statement at the awards this time in a black and beige, well-worked saree. The sleek up-do and classic red lip embodied her ever-lasting style and her choice of minimal jewelry made sure that all of the attention was drawn to her embroidery, as well as that million dollar smile!

Hemal Ranasinghe

Did you really think we’d end this list without including Hemal? You thought wrong! Actor, model, dancer, television presenter, and now labelled heart stealer, Hemal showed up to the awards looking dapper as all hell and making it quite difficult for the gents to hold on to their dates. The grey tux and high-neck black shirt gets a definite yes from us!

Of course, there were countless other people who took the effort to look their best and for that, hats off to you guys! But the aforementioned 6 names were definite show-stoppers. Now, if you would excuse me, I’m going to revert back to watching re-runs of the awards and wondering where all the good genes in the family went. So till next time, folks!
