Looking for a change?
We’ve all had those moments on Instagram scrolling through your feed when you find the generic multicolored hairspo pic and think to yourself “why can’t that be me?”
Well it can! these quick easy DIY methods of temporary hair coloring can be done at home and are guaranteed to wash off before you have to go to school or work.
- Eyeshadow
This is one of the easiest methods and it is guaranteed to wash off within one wash. All you would need to do ideally is wet the strand of hair you would like to chalk and run the wet strand onto the eyeshadow pan; sliding the tub of shadow down your hair while holding it against the shadow with your thumb. Coat the front and the back as many times as you would like until you get the desired color, Spray with hairspray to seal the color and you’re done. (try to use individual shadow pots for this as opposed to palettes which may be tricky)
- Jell-O
For this, all you need is some coloured Jell-O mix of your choice, which is quite inexpensive, Try to get the sugar free kind to avoid unnecessary stickiness. Then all you would need to do is boil 3 cups of water and add the mix to it. Then you would need to transfer it into a bowl and let your hair soak in the bowl from 30-60 mins. (this tends to work better with lighter hair, those with darker hair might have to repeat process a few more times to get the desired effect.) guaranteed to wash off in 3-4 washes.
- Food Colouring
This one is my personal favorite due to the salon-type accuracy the color develops. (Note this is more effective on lighter hair, those with darker hair might have to repeat process to get the desired effect.) all you would need to do is Pour your desired amount of food coloring into a disposable cup with hair conditioner,Use a toothbrush to comb it into your hair. Let it sit for 10 minutes, (for best results leave overnight) Do not wash for 24 hours.
This is likely to last for 3 weeks to a month depending on your hair type.
- Markers
This is useful in tinting your hair temporarily and does work with darker hair too! All you would need to do is Pry the back of the marker open and remove the tube of color. Use scissors to cut the plastic tube open and remove the color-soaked felt. Moisten the felt with a couple of drops of water. Rub the felt on the desired areas of your hair. This should last for a week.
- Mascara
A quick and easy way of getting small hints of color into your hair. Most cosmetic suppliers do carry hair mascara; if not you can use regular colored mascara which should usually have a blue or a brown shade in the range. A couple of swipes through your hair and you’re ready to go!
Just a tip, if you already have colored hair or highlights, these methods would be especially useful on already colored hair which is absorbent and will hold color longer.
