The culinary brilliance of Sri Lanka was exhibited at Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants’ 2017 awards ceremony held in Bangkok Thailand today. The two Sri Lankan restaurants awarded were the Ministry of Crab, which was ranked No. 29, while Nihonbashi was ranked No. 49 in the list.
Ministry of Crab was described as the crab lovers’ heaven within the heart of Colombo, with a standout dish of Garlic chilli crab.
Meanwhile, Nihonbashi was celebrated for its unique cuisine of simple and elegant Sri Lankan ingredients with a Japanese mindset, with a standout dish of Tsukune nabe.
Both award-winning restaurants were founded by the renowned chef Dharshan Munidasa, who has spent years perfecting the seafood and contemporary hybrid of Japanese and Sri Lankan cuisine. Dharshan Munidasa has further opened The Tuna & The Crab, and Kaema Sutra within Colombo, and is renowned for his culinary expertise.
The title of Asia’s No. 01 restaurant was awarded to Thailand’s Gaggan. They serve up a mouth watering progressive Indian cuisine and quite deserve the title they won for the third consecutive year.
