Mother’s day is just around the corner, okay, for those of you who read this right now and realised its next Sunday, and for those of you who also realised that Sunday is literally only a day away, you can stop freaking out now. We’ve got your covered.

You’ve probably already realised, we at Pulse, we like making lists. This is another addition to our ‘The Ultimate Gift Guide’ category of articles that you must absolutely check out. Last minute gift hunting is stressful, but if you already have an idea of what you want to get your mom, then it won’t be as hard. Since its mother’s day, I think the girls are going to find it much easier to get their mom something than the guys would. So we’re here to help both, we’re here to make your dream of claiming the glorious title for the ‘Mommy’s Favourite’ a reality. Don’t worry, this list will out you ahead of your siblings and you’ll be at the top of your game in no time.

What makes a mom so special? It’s so difficult to have to answer this. Everything about her makes her special. She helped mould you into the person that you now are, her arms were your blanket in the cold and her words, your guiding light. On Mother’s day, we celebrate the essence of motherhood and we want your mom to have the most memorable day and nothing less. That’s why we’ve come up with a list of few things you can do to make your mom feel special. For everything she’s done for you, a simple gesture to make her happy is a must.

  1. Flower Power

You can never go wrong with a bouquet of flowers and some chocolates. Flowers are truly, the way to anyone’s heart. Flowers make someone feel special. Your mom is going to absolutely love this surprise, by the side of the bed when she wakes up in the morning.

If you don’t think you’d have enough time to pick the flowers then you can maybe you can try the following;

  • Get Kapruka to deliver them to you. They have an amazing collection of Mother’s Day goodies that you have to check out!
  • Check out Shiro Hana their flowers are fresh, beautiful and very artistic! They’ve been at the top of their game for quite some time, and they won’t disappoint you. Their prices are a bit on the high end, but trust me the
  • Lassna Flora is another one of those florists in Sri Lanka who put precision and thought into every bouquet of flowers they send out. Although the only downside here was that the last time I tried to pay with my card, their servers were down and the only accepted a few kinds of cards.

Tip: If you want to avoid inconveniences and get the flowers delivered by Sunday, then I suggest you make your orders well in advance (you’ve literally not got so much time on your hands anyway) , if you don’t want to go through any last minute disappointments.

  1. Spa Day

No woman says no to a spa day, and nothing would make her happier than an all-expense paid trip to the spa! For the girls, maybe you can take your mom for a mani-pedi or a relaxing massage. Places to go for in Colombo are the Nail Spa, Nail Anatomy and Spa Ceylon. They’ve all got some very interesting packages that you must absolutely check out. Do call in and make an appointment today to make sure that you get a time slot you prefer.

Okay, so the boys are probably wondering how this option is going to help you. Not to worry. You can still get that title, what you can do, is maybe get her a gift pack from one of these places. I suggest looking into Spa Ceylon or The Body Shop Sri Lanka. You can either go for a package they already have, or put a few items together and create your own!

  1. Sugary Delights

Love me some sugar! Your mamma is going to appreciate the cupcakes or the brownies. There’s lots of places that are currently taking in mother’s day orders. Pre-order the amount of cupcakes or brownies that you want and either have them deliver it or go pick it up.

Keep the orders reasonably small, it’s not anyone’s birthday so a massive cake or a whole load of cupcakes would really just be a waste of money.

Tip: A box of cupcakes accompanied by a flower bouquet would be ideal! When you are getting something sugary, look into your options. Try and go for one with pretty fondant that spells our ‘M-O-M’ or have something of the sort.

  1. Satisfy the shopaholic in her

A mom who’s a shopaholic will always be grateful for the bags, shoes and accessories you get her. What better way to make her happy on Sunday than get her, her something from her favourite brands available in the country. Given the few international brands we have, if you’re looking for something like a dress or an elegant top, you can check out Mango, they have a beautiful range of silky and dressing items that’s bound to add glamour to her wardrobe! Their retail store is down Galle Road.

On the other hand, if your mom is the shoes & bags type, then a treat from somewhere like Charles and Keith will be spot on! In case you need to take a look at what you’re going to go for, whether it’s a bowling back, boots or a simple clutch, its best you go through their website, they usually update is as and when their new line of bags and shoes are launched. (But however, I don’t suggest you shop online, because if you do, you’d have to pay extra shipping charges and you won’t be able to get what you want by Sunday, it’s cheaper and faster to walk into their store down Galle Road or at the Arcade Independence Square).

Fossil just opened up at Arcade Independence Square. These time tellers are more on the expensive side. But if you aren’t on a budget and you feel like expressing your love with a gift with a heavy price tag, do check their store out. They’ve also brought their leather goodies collection that might interest you.

Tip: You have to be very specific about what you want to get her. If it’s a pair of shoes, then you need to know her shoe size, having to go there for the second time to change the shoes are a bit of an embarrassment!

  1. A Mother’s Day date

So many hotels in Colombo have an amazing line-up of Mother’s day brunch and High Tea. Since its Sunday, it’s an added advantage that most hotels in Colombo have their massive Sunday Brunch, whether it be Caviar and Oyster or Sri Lankan delicacies. Your mom would love spending time with you, with good food and great company. Call up a couple of hotels before making reservations. Ask them if they have promos for Mother’s day, if they don’t look into some that do. But if your mom already loves Sunday Brunch at a certain hotel, skip the research part, make a reservation and take her there. Quick, hurry up and make your reservations now!
