If you ever happen to pass down Marine Drive by Ozo between 5pm and 11pm, make sure you keep your eyes open for Street Burger! The Burger market in Colombo has introduced its newest contender yet; a food truck that brings you nothing short of the best gourmet burgers in town.

This humble food truck consists of about 2-3 people working behind its counter to ensure that their customers receive top quality burgers and leave them craving for more. The cooking and assembling of the burgers happen then and there, so you get a freshly made burger rather than an old, soggy one that is usually left over from the previous batch.
Upon hearing how good they were at what they do, we decided to check them out and judge them ourselves (what better critic than yourself, aye?). Here’s what we thought;
Menu
For all you foodies out there, they’ve got a reasonable range of burgers with meat choices varying from chicken, beef and bacon. They have their main ingredients printed along with each burger, so you know what exactly goes into your order without leaving any room for surprise (pleasant or otherwise). The prices vary from about Rs.450-600, but they are worth the bucks.
Every item on the menu looks very tempting, so be prepared for a little struggle in choosing what to order!
Food
One thing all the burgers had in common was the fresh bun with sesame seeds sprinkled on top. Not only is the meat grilled to perfection but the bun is as well. Its fresh, crispy texture blends with the soft bread, bringing out more balance in texture.
Not to forget, each burger comes with a very innovative makeshift cardboard that they call a “Shifter”! We all know how messy eating a huge scrumptious burger can get, so this has been well thought out. It holds your burger and keeps it in place while preventing any of the ingredients from falling from behind.
- NITROUS – Rs. 450

This consisted of chicken, lettuce, onions and cheese, yet it felt a bit too dry to my liking. It wasn’t the worst burger I’ve had but it certainly was not the best either. Looks-wise, I was expecting a burger than would live up to its name by looking more appealing, however it did not accomplish that.
- CHZ N CHEESY – Rs. 450

It was relieving to see more color in this burger than the previous one. It consisted of a grilled beef patty which was just pleasantly moist in your mouth. The melted cheese added to the rich texture and the lettuce, onions and tomatoes balanced it out perfectly.
- BURNOUT – Rs. 550

The “BURNOUT” had cheese oozing from all sides! Being a big cheese fan myself, this burger made me very happy. My love for cheese will never “burn out” *badum tss*. Jokes aside, it was really moist and the lettuce just cut through by adding a thick, crunchy texture alongside the gooey cheese.
- MONSTER – Rs. 600

This burger has a very unusual ingredient that is outside your usual burger recipes. BEETROOT.
Right? My initial reaction was “Beetroot? In a burger?”, which made me brace myself in case the “MONSTER” turned out to be another let down. Boy, was I wrong. The beetroot added a whole new flavor to the burger! The sweetness that came off the beetroot was tinged with spice, creating a universe of flavors in your mouth along with the juicy meat and cheese. You’d want to go back for more unless of course, you’re not a fan of veggies.
- French Fries – Rs. 200
The fries are made to perfection, bringing out their golden brown color and crunchy texture.
The portion of fries was very small but the dip made up for any let down. Along with each portion, you receive a small container with Street Burger’s infamous garlic dip, which is to die for! We preferred if the dip was larger but for 200 bucks, it was worth it. They also provide ketchup if you were to run out of the dip or simply if you’re not a fan of garlic.
Don’t forget to take a look at the video of our visit to Street Burger!
We’d rate our experience here a good 4/5. The burgers are quite filling and are quite satisfactory in the taste department as well. Let us know in the comments below, if we missed anything or simply tell us how your experience at the Street Burger was!
