Everyone loves some good old Chick Lit now and then. After all, it’s definitely the most fun and entertaining genre! So if you’re looking for some good books to catch up on this weekend, we’ve got you covered!
1. Bridget Jones’s Diary – Helen Fielding

This hilarious book by Helen Fielding is well-known for its popular on-screen adaptation. It follows a year in the life of a 30-something single woman, who aspires to lose 7 pounds, stop smoking, and develop inner poise. Of course, this quest for self-improvement does not always come easily or even successfully. Nevertheless, Bridget’s hilarious storytelling and attitude makes this a highly relatable novel.
2. The Devil Wears Prada – Lauren Weisberger

The Devil Wears Prada is indeed an iconic movie and novel as well. It is a delightfully dishy novel about the dark side of living life at the top. It is narrated in the fresh, young voice of Andrea, who is thrust into a world of which she has no clue. It is both hilarious and insightful, making it the perfect chick-lit read for a lazy Sunday afternoon.
3. The Shopaholic Series – Sophie Kinsella

Beginning with Confessions of a Shopaholic, this series by Sophie Kinsella is as entertaining as it gets! Becky’s internal struggles, conflict, and hilarious narration seals the deal. Once you get your hands on this book, you simply won’t be able to put it down. Relatable until a certain extent, the character’s own journey is filled with anecdotes and problems that not many other chick-lit writers have touched upon.
4. Queen of Babble – Meg Cabot

The queen of chick-lit, Meg Cabot certainly dominates this list! Queen of Babble is unbelievably funny, thoughtful, and sprinkled with just the right amount of romance. The protagonist Lizze Nichols is a delightful character, who always says the wrong thing at the wrong time and never seems to be able to keep secrets to herself. Following her story and thought process is immensely entertaining, and the epitome of chick-lit.
5. Eat Pray Love – Elizabeth Gilbert

Eat Pray Love was an immense success, both as a book and as a movie. When Gilbert goes through an early midlife crisis, involving a divorce and depression, she simply doesn’t know who she is anymore. Her decision to take a yearlong journey around the world culminates in the book we all know and love. The experiences she has along the way have inspired many books and stories of similar nature since then.
6. The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants – Ann Brashares

An iconic series, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants was loved by many young readers – and still is! After all, which group of friends didn’t wish for a pair of pants exactly like the ones in the book? This series truly defined friendship, summer, and love for a whole generation of young readers and will definitely continue to do so!
7. The Boy Next Door – Meg Cabot

This series of books is a whole new genre of chick-lit. The use of only separate formats such as messaging, email, newspaper clippings, and more, is a bold choice – and one that certainly pays off! Rather than the usual form of prose and the protagonist’s point of view, this changed-up format is brilliant, creative, and something different! Throughout all the different formats, Meg Cabot manages to keep the pace lively and interesting, using the point of view of several different characters.
8. Size 12 is Not Fat – Meg Cabot

The Heather Wells series is certainly some of Cabot’s best work! The mysteries and romance make each book an all-round book, perfectly centered on a highly unique character. Although mysteries are not generally this author’s forte, each story crafted well and impossible to guess, unlike other mystery novels of this genre. This makes it a highly interesting read.
9. The Nanny Diaries – Emma McLaughlin

Struggling to graduate from NYU and afford her microscopic studio apartment, Nanny takes a position caring for the only son of the wealthy X family. She rapidly learns the insane amount of juggling involved to ensure that a Park Avenue wife who doesn’t work, cook, clean, or raise her own child has a smooth day. When the X’s’ marriage begins to disintegrate, Nanny ends up involved way beyond the bounds of human decency or good taste. Her tenure with the X family becomes a nearly impossible mission to maintain the mental health of their four-year-old, her own integrity and, most importantly, her sense of humor. The Nanny Diaries are a highly acclaimed chick-lit series and beloved by many!
10. The Princess Diaries – Meg Cabot

Cabot’s style of writing and content has gained her thousands of beloved fans. However, The Princess Diaries series in particular truly captures the attention of women around the world. The fascinating story of young Mia Thermopolis and her journey from an ordinary awkward schoolgirl to the princess of Genovia is a classic. The character herself is highly relatable and Cabot’s choice of diary as the layout for the novel is ultimately the perfect choice and remained entertaining throughout the entire series.
11. Something Borrowed – Emily Giffin

This is the first novel in the Darcy and Rachel series, where goody-two-shoes Rachel has a few too many drinks and ends up in bed with Darcy’s fiancé! It is a phenomenal debut novel by Giffin, which touches on love, friendship, and will have you laughing out loud.
