Beat Drummers is a 24-member percussion ensemble founded in 2008 by Sachintha De Silva, that has grown from humble beginnings into an internationally recognised musical force. For the past 17 years they’ve taken the rhythm of Sri Lanka across the globe, conquering hearts through the vibrant and powerful art of drumming.
What sets the Beat Drummers apart is their deep connection to Sri Lankan culture. From traditional acoustic beats to modern drumming techniques, they’ve continuously pushed boundaries to match international standards without losing their cultural identity.
Their journey began with a major breakthrough in 2011, when Sachintha and his team performed for the first time as Beat Drummers. Since then, they’ve performed at prestigious local and international events, including the ICC World Cup 2011, the World Percussion Festival in 2012 where they represented Sri Lanka, and the star-studded IIFA Awards.
The Beat Drummers have proudly taken Sri Lankan rhythm to the world, performing globally in India, the Philippines, Thailand, and the Maldives. Their international exposure has allowed them to collaborate with many global artists.
Sachintha De Silva and his love for the art of drum-making led him to design and create three unique types of drums, showcasing his dedication not just as a performer, but as a craftsman. What’s even more inspiring is that all 24 members of Beat Drummers are his students. This clearly shows the unity and shared vision within the group.
Their biggest show yet is just around the corner. On August 3, Beat Drummers will host “Bera Clinic” at the Viharamahadevi Open Air Theatre. This is no ordinary concert. It’s an interactive drumming experience where 1,500 darbaks will be distributed among the audience, inviting them to play along with the band. It’s the first event of its kind in Sri Lanka and promises to be an unforgettable celebration of rhythm and creativity.
