CFW Resort – Day 3

“Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” – Coco Chanel

This year’s Colombo Fashion Week resort wear collection stays true to these lines. The range of designers and their clothes had themes that were inspired by tropical settings and the fresh colours and features to be seen there.

The show was held at the Moon Bastion, Galle Fort with the magnificent clock tower acting as the backdrop for the ramp. The outdoor show with nothing to shelter you from the night sky was an absolute stunner! The clear skies and the million stars that were elegantly but riskily not obstructed from our view gracefully highlighted the ramp below it. And thank the God’s that Ajai Vir Singh’s (founder of CFW) prayers had been answered, as stated in a short speech he later gave the audience. Continual showers that had been visiting the island of Sri Lanka had taken a break that night so that CFW could pull off a successful show.

The ramp was first ignited by the label HARARE, a women’s wear label based in New York which was founded by Caroline Fuss. She showcased a range of designs with sober and tranquil colours. The outfits clung strongly but effortlessly onto the models bodies highlighting its perfect fit.

Romona Oshini also brought forth an interesting collection based on a more floral aspect-the ocean lily of a tropical paradise. The idea she wanted to show through the ocean lily was that it is deadly to touch yet beautiful to look at. The tone of colour in her designs ascended from soft green dresses with scarf’s to pure white maxis.

Daniel Single had Sri Lanka’s own international super model, Adam Flamer-Caldera, sporting a chilled out and yet confident look in pale ripped jeans and see through black shirt. Adam walked the ramp for the last time in Sri Lanka after being with CFW for many years. Adam currently being one of the busiest models for Ford-Models’ in New York seems to have missed a few important assignments so that he could be part of something he loves in Sri Lanka.

Another collection which instantly caught the audience’s attention was the label U by Upeksha Hager. Her designs were based on the impression‘a walk from sunny places to misty forests’. Some pieces which showed off a deep musky brown colour were chic and charming. The sunny and earthy linen look fit perfectly into the CFW resort wear collection.

#CFWResort show came to an end with two international designers from India, Anshu Arora Sen and Jason Cheriyan. Their label ‘smallshop’ has been famously summed up as vibrant, painterly whimsical and luxuriously languid. Their products are known to go through a unique hand process with the use of natural fabrics. This label gave CFW resort the grand finale it deserved with its unique and inspiring pieces which showed off both the designers true talents.

CFW gloriously ended its resort collection for this year with the support of HSBC, Vaseline, Jetwing Hotels, OLU tropical water and many more sponsors. The show concluded by excitingly spilling over into the after party that followed at the Jetwing Lighthouse where one of the designers itself, Daniel Single, performed as the headlining DJ for the party as ‘Dangerous Dan’. All in all kudos to the CFW team that pulled off yet another successful and inspiring fashion show which has been a platform to nearly 90% of the designers in Sri Lanka over the years. Impatience and enthusiasm for the next Spring/Summer collection is already building up!
