While Colombo may not seem like a dumpling hotspot at first glance, there are ample restaurants which offer various kinds of dumplings in and around Colombo. To our surprise, dumplings are more popular now, so much so that even a few non-Chinese restaurants cater to dumpling fanatics to satiate those stubborn appetites. So here are a bunch of restaurants in and around Colombo, at which your dumpling cravings will be put to rest!
1. Long Feng, Cinnamon Lakeside
Indulge in an All You Can Eat dim sum buffet handcrafted by Long Feng’s master chef, Meiqin Duan, on Saturdays and Sundays. Boasting over 30 varieties of delicious dim sum, this buffet is priced at LKR 2950,

2. Ming Han
A little birdy told us that their boiled pork dumplings are to die for and cost LKR 660, while their pan-fried dumplings (Teppan Dumplings) are priced at LKR 960. Steamed dumplings are priced at LKR 600.

3. Momos by Ruvi
Pioneering the dumpling scene in Colombo, Momos by Ruvi offers super affordable Halal dumplings with either a veg, chicken, beef, or prawn filling. They have platters of dumplings and soup dumplings too!

4. Shang Palace, Shangri-La Hotel
If what you are looking for is splendid interior and stellar dim sums, Shang Palace is for you. They prepare their dumplings steamed, boiled, and fried, and not to mention delicious!

5. Zen
A beautiful and romantic spot for a date, the Japanese restaurant Zen, doubles as a go-to spot for dumplings too. They have pan-fried gyoza stuffed with minced chicken, served with ponzu sauce.

6. Wan Ge Di Ya
Whether it’s chicken and shrimp syumai (LKR 600), vegetable dumplings (LKR 600), Har gow shrimp dumplings (LKR 850), or chive and pork pot stickers (LKR 800), Wan Ge Di Ya has got it all! Message the Facebook page for reservations as the contact number is currently out of order.

7. Sushi Kai
A beloved Japanese restaurant, Sushi Kai offers both chicken (LKR 950) and vegetable (LKR 620) gyoza, and even scrumptious octopus ball dumplings (1150) for those adventurous souls.

A personal favourite for some authentic Chinese, Yue Chuan, whips up homemade boiled, pork with celery, chicken with Chinese cabbage, and assorted vegetable dumplings, all priced at LKR 800.

11. Mama’s Kitchen, Food Studio
Offering yummy chicken, beef, and prawn dumplings in 6 piece and 12 piece portions, Mama’s Kitchen at Food Studio, One Galle Face, claims that their prawn dumplings are their best seller so do try them!

12. Shanghai Terrace

13. Steam Boat
Us Sri Lankans are not strangers to this restaurant chain with its many branches around the country. They offer dumplings only under their kids menu, so this one is for the little ones who crave gyoza. Branches at Nawala, Mt. Lavinia, Moratuwa and Kadana.

14. Chef Tyro Fushion Restaurant
Although not solely a Chinese restaurant, Chef Tyro Restaurant whips up some amazing salmon gyoza priced at LKR 600 which is not too bad for some yummy salmon dumplings.

15. Asylum Restaurant and Lounge Bar
An upscale addition to the list for those fancy date nights, Asylum, does dumplings right! They have pork momo dumplings and prawn gyoza, both served with a soy chilli dipping sauce and priced at LKR 1650.

16. Jade Dragon

While its ambience doesn’t entirely match its price point, Chinese Delight is still a good eatery to get keep the dumpling cravings at bay with their steamed chicken and pork dumplings, both priced LKR 638.

18. Thai Heritage Food Truck

21. Crystal Jade
This Chinese restaurant chain which recently opened its doors at One Galle Face, offers steamed black and white shrimp dumplings as a starter priced at LKR 900. We loved the dish so do try it out!

22. EDO Japanese Restaurant
Being both Halal and a BYOB spot, EDO, caters to those dumplings cravings with its homemade salmon gyoza dumplings. You get 6 pieces for LKR 980 which is not too bad considering its unwavering standard.

23. Kobe, Waters Edge
Along with the restaurant’s mood lighting, Kobe would make a great spot for a date. The high price point of their chicken and pork gyoza (LKR 1500) owes much to its stellar presentation and taste. We loved it!

Robata is an all-time personal favourite for affordable and value for money food, and they do not disappoint on the dumpling front either. Their crystal shrimp dumplings cost only LKR 360 for 4 pieces!
