The 41 year old lead vocalist of the renowned band is said to have taken his own life by hanging himself.
The body of Bennington was found at a private home in LA at 09:00 local time on Thursday, July 19.
Fellow band mate Mike Shinoda confirmed Bennington’s death with a tweet saying, “Shocked and heartbroken, but it’s true. An official statement will come out as soon as we have one.”
Linkin Park formed 21 years ago in 1996. They’ve sold over 70 million albums throughout the years and have collaborated with several artists including Jay-Z. They have been regarded as one of the best indie-rock bands of all time.
Bennington has apparently struggled with drug as well as alcohol abuse for a while, and has also brought up committing suicide in the past due to incidences of child abuse.
With his death, he leaves behind a wife and 6 children from two marriages.
