Menu

Coffee & Company is a chilled out restaurant located down a by-lane on Thurstan Road, named Pedris Road. It may be a bit hard to find, but it’s on the first lane to the right on Pedris Road. It has a very home-y, relaxed vibe, and you can either opt to dine inside or out. On the Saturday that we dropped by, there was just one person behind the counter which is kind of strange given that weekends tend to be the more crowded days. They do have a good range on their menu varying from coffees, to other drinks, to paninis, pastas, rice and so much more.

So here’s how our experience at Coffee & Company went!

Drinks

Chocolate Haven- Rs. 690

The Chocolate Haven is definitely on my list of ‘Best Chocolate Drinks in Colombo’! Not many restaurants master the knack of whipping up a great chocolate-y beverage, but Coffee & Company got it right. The drink is thick (and not unpleasantly watery, as is the case in many eateries) and brings out a rich, flavourful chocolate flavour. The taste of Nutella pulled through so well, and this drink will turn any chocolate lover’s frown upside down!
(Tip: Ladies, this drink is THE cure for those darn cramps!)

Salted Caramel- Rs. 650

I am usually not a caramel fan, but this drink really did manage to stir me! It had a really nice caramel flavour and reminded me of Mars bars. It would have been top-notch had it been cooler and a bit more thicker in terms of consistency.

Food

Pasta with Chicken and Mushroom- Rs. 650

The pasta at Coffee & Company bursts with spice and flavour, but isn’t exactly one of the best pastas I’ve had, given that there wasn’t anything particularly special about it. However, it was pretty good. It had a good cheese to pasta to meat ratio and had a generous amount of mushrooms as well. What I particularly loved about this dish was the spice in it. A definite must try!

Chillie Prawn Penne Pasta- Rs. 650

This dish would appeal to seafoodies out there! Served with chunky, juicy prawns, and spicy cheese sauce, the dish was very similar to the chicken pasta. In fact, the sauce tasted almost the same, except that it was a tad bit spicier. On that note, I really wished we could have tried a sauce different to the one we had before.

Chicken with Pesto Panini- Rs. 550

Their Paninis are delicious and made out of roast paan! Toasted to perfection yet soft and crunchy, it was packed with juicy pieces of chicken coated in pesto sauce. This sandwich was a real winner for me! The pesto sauce was not too strong and did not overpower the entire dish altogether, which is what I’ve dealt with on previous encounters with pesto dishes. All in all, pretty good!

Desserts

Cheesecake- Rs. 450

There wasn’t much of a choice in desserts the day we dropped by, so one of the dishes we decided to try out was a classic cheesecake. Served in a tiny jar, the contrasting layers of sauce, cream cheese mixture and crumb base were aesthetically pleasing to look at. Nonetheless, it pretty much ended there for me; it wasn’t exactly great because something about it made it taste like it had been sitting there for days, just waiting to be purchased.

Fire and Ice- Rs. 450

To wrap up our time at Coffee & Company, we went with the Fire and Ice, which is THE coffee lover’s dessert! This was a large scoop of vanilla ice cream served with a shot of espresso. It came in a cocktail glass and tasted the delightful, and the contrasting hot coffee mixed with the cold vanilla ice cream gave our taste-buds quite the tingle!
