What we had
A cute little eatery down Thimbirigasyaya road!
Domenico’s is a small pizza eatery down Thimbirigasyaya road which is also in close competition to the likes of Giovanni’s. It’s been around for a few years now and their premises remind you of a small-mediocre pizza station mushroomed down an Italian street. They serve up authentic Italian pizzas, their staff is super cordial, attentive and wonderful, and the ambiance is casual and chill.
Drinks
Iced Tea: Peach, Blackcurrant and Grape
The drinks we had were basic iced teas. They weren’t ones that were made in-house, but bottled iced tea you would get off the shelves of your local supermarket.
Mains
They have a range of pizzas from Vegetarian, to seafood and poultry. They’ve also got 7 pizzas named after the 7 deadly sins, which are sinfully delicious!
Pizza Lust – Lussuria: 9”- LKR 1200
This was the first sin we tried 😉 it’s a pizza topped with mozzarella, bacon, onion, egg and pepper. As much as the pizza looked like an omelet on a crust, the bacon and chili flakes gave it depth and flavor. I’d definitely have this as a breakfast pizza. Yes – a breakfast pizza – isn’t that a dream come true or what?
Pizza Gluttony – Gola: 9” – LKR 1750
We totally got why these pizzas were names after the deadly sins because the Gluttony pizza certainly leaves you wanting more! The menus says that this is “David’s Dream” and no sooner than our first bite, it was ours too! It’s a pizza with tomato sauce, mozzarella, Italian sausage, bacon, pepperoni, parma ham, garlic and black olives. This was the other half of our ‘half and half’ of Lust Lussuria and Gluttony. The pizza was overflowing with cheese and meat and it was an absolute hit with us.
Beef Pepperoni: 9” – LKR 1350
Next we tried a classic Beef Pepperoni and were not disappointed by it. The pepperoni tasted oddly fresher and much better than most pepperoni you find here. Here too, they didn’t hold back on the cheese, and we were glad they didn’t!
Lamb: 9” – LKR 1350
Since they had lamb on the menu we were quite curious to find out how it tasted. This was a pizza topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella, minced Australian lamb, onion, garlic, capsicum and fresh tomato. This pizza was quite different to the rest we had, but yummy nonetheless.
Chicken Spaghetti Pasta – LKR 890
This Chicken Spaghetti was steaming, and was massive. For this price, we thought the pasta was totally worth it. However, it was heavy on the oil, and made us feel a little sick, especially since we were stuffed on the pizza.
Sides
Garlic bread (with cheese) – LKR 600
For sides, we tried out their garlic bread (pizza) with cheese. They didn’t have the ‘with cheese’ option on the menu, but the chef said that he was just introducing it. This was some good garlic bread, again the combo of the cheese and this crust, yum. I feel the need to make a special mention of the speed of their service, this was delivered to us in no less than 5 minutes after we made the order and got our drinks, which was impressive!
Dessert
Nutella Pizza – LKR 1400
Yes, you read that right. Nutella, AND pizza! This was a match made in pizza heaven, and although we were stuffed to the brim, we were glad we had this. This delicious pizza desert was topped with a crumble and small scoops of ice cream. Apparently this is a hit among the kids, but I tell you, it was such a hit among us adults as well! I went back for this twice after I did the review of the place. I think it’s turning into a comfort for me!
Have you been to Domenicos yet? Let us know what you think of it in the comments below! Is there anything we’ve missed?
Tip: Do try out the Gluttony pizza. Have the Nutella Pizza for desert, you won’t go wrong with the combo!
