What we had
The TECC is known for its incredible cakes and pick-me-up drinks. We stopped by to take a first look at their dinner menu served on Fridays and over the weekend. ‘Peri peri kukula’ is a little BBQ outlet they have that serves delicious chicken with Sri Lankan peri peri sauce.

As a small cafe, TECC seemed to have lost its homeliness. The once cozy cafe now looks quite deserted and lonely. The space looks gloomy and the interior is screaming for a re-do.
Here’s how our experience went!
Drinks
TECC Narang Juice

The Narang Juice was incredible refreshing. It was a first time try for me and I can really see why everyone was commendable of TECC’s drinks. It was light and packed a punch. They’ve got a few more varieties in a freezer too, ranging from starfruit to passion fruit.
Mains
1/4 Chicken Leg – LKR 650
The chicken leg was by far the best. It was grilled a little too much, so it was a bit too tough and dry. However, the outer of the chicken was marinated well and the spices and the sauces had made its way all the way to the bone. The BBQ gave the chicken a charred and grilled smoky flavor.
Chicken Burger – LKR 670

The chicken burger is a freshly baked Portuguese bun with lettuce, red onion, tomato, and topped with Peri Peri sauce. The burger was pretty good. The bread was fresh and looked as if it were homemade. It was loaded with juicy chicken, tomato, lettuce and peri peri sauce. With every bite, you taste the succulent grilled chicken – one of the best burgers around town.
Peri Peri Basmati rice – Regular: LKR 150 / Large: LKR 280

The basmati rice is infused with a blend of aromatic South Asian spices. The rice wasn’t our favorite. Mainly because it was overcooked and hence much harder on the palette. The texture of the rice was therefore distorted as well.
Corn on the Cob – Regular: LKR 150 / Large: LKR 280
Firstly, we were pretty glad we got to have some grilled corn because it’s a meal often overlooked on Sri Lankan menus. Sadly, it wasn’t too great, albeit it was a fairly impressive attempt. We would have preferred the corn to be grilled a little more so that the kernels would have been softer.
Mango Salsa
The chicken leg and the burger were both accompanied by a Mexican-inspired bright mango salsa. When eaten by itself, the mango salsa wasn’t too great, but when combined together with the smoky chicken, the sweetness from the mango and the acidity in the salad cut through the spice in the chicken.

Tip: Size small is pretty filling for one person!
