What we had
Bringing one of South East Asia’s most vibrant cuisines to Sri Lanka.
Indonesian Cuisine is known for its vibrancy, diversity and spice in each recipe and dish. Sumatran Spice is a stall at the Food Studio, Colombo City Center that serves up a few replications of vibrant and indigenous Indonesian dishes.
Mains
Chicken Nasi Goreng – LKR 850
The Chicken Nasi Goreng was a perfect replication of an authentic Indonesian nasi goreng (minus the prawn cracker, so I was slightly disappointed). The rice was cooked well and was topped with a fried egg over which they had sprinkled some sambal. However, the meat in the chicken satay was a little too dry and tough to bite off the kebab, so that was a minus for me.
Beef Rendang – LKR 1200
The Beef Rendang was a clear winner for me. The meat was juicy and succulent! The gravy was strongly aromatic with the scent of spices, that I was pretty impatient to rush to my table with the dish to devour it. The overall dish consisted of a cup of cooked white rice, vegetables and sambal.
