Brinjal with Katta Karawala

A traditional Sri Lankan curry with the perfect twist! Check out our Brinjal with Katta Karawala recipe below!

Ingredients:

  • Brinjal 300g
  • Katta Karawala 150g (or any other dry fish)
  • Onion 1 medium
  • Turmeric powder ¼ tsp
  • Chili powder 1 ¼ tsp
  • Curry powder ½ tsp
  • Green chilies 3
  • Tamarind juice/paste ½ tsp
  • Coconut milk 1 cup
  • Oil 2 tbsp
  • Curry leaves and rampa
  • Salt 1 tsp

Method:

  1. Heat oil and add katta karawala (Dry fish). Fry this for 2 – 3 minutes.
  2. Then add curry leaves or rampa, turmeric powder, green chilies, onions, brinjal, chili powder, curry powder, salt, and tamarind juice.
  3. Mix well and close the lid. Leave this to cook for 5 – 8 minutes.
  4. Then add coconut milk. Close the lid and allow this to cook under a slow flame.
