Must-have Dishes
The homey little cafe where wonders are made!
If you are looking for a peaceful little café to escape from the everyday nuances of very many blues, look no further than the Longdon Café, one of the homiest places I’ve been to. The café is a part of their home and you will most likely meet the children of the owner who are part of the tight-knit family and Nimnaz, the owner herself, could tell you some truly inspiring stories about the cafe and her journey. If it’s your lucky day, you’ll also get to hear the sweet whisperings of Naala, the cutest and friendliest house cat. Longdon Cafe is truly a labour of love and hardwork where the food tastes like home but with an extra zing.

Appetisers
Cheesy Chicken Fries – LKR 1,200 (5/5)
This dish is a go-to comfort bowl of cheesy glory! Chicken chunks tossed in tomato sauce, cheese, mayonnaise and sesame seeds to garnish, this potato fries dish elevated the hearty snack into a filling bowl of cheesy chicken goodness. The juicy and tender chicken was an indulgent combination with the fries.
Mains
Mini Pancake Platter – LKR 2,200 (5/5)
Make way for the three mini-smiley pancakes! A warm and filling treat with portions of meat and fish spiced to perfection, this platter carried two chicken pancakes and one tuna pancake. The chilli chicken and Thai chicken pancakes stole the show and they were just so juicy and full of flavour. The Thai chicken was a little sweet and leaned more towards the spicier side. The chicken seemed to be well seasoned. The buttery textured tuna pancake was just as good in terms of taste. The pancakes which sandwiched the meat and fish were light, fluffy and just the right size!
Creamy Prawn Pasta – LKR 1,500 (5/5)
Fried juicy prawns rolled up in one creamy bite of spaghetti was the next best thing you will try after the cheesy fries. The presentation of this dish was excellent and you could easily get a glimpse of everything that went into it. The soft prawn chunks tossed in barbeque and mustard sauce, and garnished with sesame seeds were perfect on their own. The spaghetti was elevated fully in its flavour profile with the creamy sauce and cherry tomatoes. It was also a huge portion that was easily shareable between two.
Desserts
Brownie – LKR 550 (5/5)
I will go back again and again for this brownie. The gooey caramel and biscoff spread was out of this world with its thick consistency. It was one of the most aesthetically pleasing brownies I have ever seen which also happened to be affordable for the rich taste it delivered. The nuts sprinkled on top were the final touch, and the crunch that made this dreamy brownie perfect. I only have love for this one!
Lava Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream – LKR 850 (5/5)
The lava cake, we were told by Nimnaz, the owner of the café, was one of her very first dessert experiments. The outside of the cake was moist and fudgy and you’ll break into a smooth hot pool of chocolate. You can order vanilla ice cream or fresh strawberries as add-ons and we tried it with ice cream. A heavenly chocolate treat that melts in your mouth and one that goes well with the brownie as we tried them together for an extra sweet experience. Turns out that it’s a deadly combination of pure bliss!
Drinks
Blue Lagoon – LKR 920 (5/5)
The drink is made with your everyday favourites, Sprite, lime, mint and the blue curacao that stands out in its colour and bitter orange flavour. The blue curacao added a vibrant tropical colour to this drink which made it enticing to look at. The salt crystals and lemon wheel garnishing were just right which added to the cooling citrusy punch the drink delivered so effortlessly.
Biscoff latte – LKR 950 (5/5)
The biscoff crumbs stepped up the texture and the overall presentation of the drink. The taste was decent and any coffee lover would love this combination of biscoff and creamy caramel latte. A heavy drink, yet an exciting blend to try!
Black Mojito – LKR 850 (5/5)
Soda, mint, cola and lime – a well balanced mojito is on the menu for a quick and refreshing cooler. While a mojito by nature does not complicate its ingredients and flavour, this heat could use a glass of good old mojito so don’t shy away from ordering one.
Service and ambience
The café was as homey as it could get. The seating was comfortable and you can consider this space for a mini-party with your friends or family. It is truly an intimate space with a welcoming family working around the clock to please your taste buds. The entrance is adorned with welcoming floral vines and the exterior of the cafe has a designated smoking area. The best part is they never stop inventing new menu items and you are truly spoilt for choice.
